A SHARED BRAIN FOR PEOPLE AND SOCIETY

Global Tech Launch (GTL) is an intense incubator-style course to develop "born-global" tech innovators and global business leaders. We work especially closely with the tech-intensive innovators, ranging from pre-seed labs, to growth startups, to new business development teams at corporations. In the GTL program, each team consists of three groups of members: (1) business/tech partners; (2) entrepreneurial leaders; and (3) global virtual team partners. Within 15 weeks, each team will complete a global market research related to a product/business's fit in an international market.

2020-2021 Cohort Profile

WHAT THE BUSINESS/TECH PARTNERS HAVE TO SAY

  • Lukas Rönck (University of Mannheim, Germany)

Can not explain how happy I was to see the immense depth the teams went to on this semester project. Their information and data will be providing insights like I didn't imagine - we are talking over 200 customer discovery interviews across the teams! Plus getting to hear how they gained a global perspective on business and culture was great. The value to these students who now begin to understand the process of starting a company / validating product & market fit / market research / is something they will never be able to learn in a textbook. More of this!!!

It is a good experience working with students at UNCC and overseas in Dr. Chen’s GLT class. The students were passionate about sustainable microalgae windows and explored ways to transform this R&D technology into the market.

Light and Charge Solutions had a great experience working with Global Tech Launch students. Their excitement and hard work was very inspiring. Students took the information we already head about the USA-based market, and the students probed our hypotheses at four of the countries, about the market size, validity of B2B business model and even found potential customers.

WHAT STUDENTS HAVE TO SAY

  • Lukas Rönck (University of Mannheim, Germany)

My name is Lukas Rönck, studying Management at the University of Mannheim, Germany. I worked on digitalization topics at the consulting firm Ernst and Young.

Global Tech Launch program has given me exciting insights into the expansion of a US technology start-up. On the one hand, it was very enriching for me to be involved in a project that has a direct impact on the further development of a company. By consulting companies in their early stages, I was able to significantly influence the further development of the company with my own knowledge. On the other hand, it was great to experience how important diverse teams are for solving complex problems.

My name is Megan Finke, and I earned my MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May 2021. I also work on the internal communication team at Novant Health.

The Global Tech Launch course at UNCC provided me with so many unique opportunities as an MBA student. I had the privilege to work with three international students, which helped me strengthen my own skills in working across cultures. Together, we learned the value of field research and how this can truly benefit a tech start-up. Best of all, our work was not for a case study, but for a real company who is looking to improve people’s lives with a new pain management device.

From start to finish this course was inspiring…and fun!

I’m Haruo Ogawa, an undergraduate student in Business and Economics at Tohoku University, Japan. The Global Tech Launch project gave me the opportunity to learn the issues start up companies have to face when seeking a chance to compete in the global market. Being able to cooperate with actual entrepreneurs in the USA was also something I found highly beneficial, as it is a rare experience for a Japanese university student to have.

I am Ji Xinwei, an economics major at Fudan University and teamed up with 3 MBA students of UNCC for the Global Tech Launch course.

It's a priceless experience, because I've learned a lot about the teamwork spirit, which enables us to overcome the difficulties caused by language, culture and time difference. Besides, in order to get in touch with potential interviewees, I've tried a bunch of cold calls for the first time.

    All in all, it's unforgettable!

My name is Lisa-Marie Klein at the University of Mannheim, Germany.

The project was my first time getting in touch with English Native speakers, and I must say, I do not regret at all being part of the Spring 2021 cohort! What really surprised me was that there are huge differences between Europe and America when it comes to the social relevance of (professional) sports and the significance of the military. It was nice to see that we could really help our American teammates to gather information about European healthcare, for example concerning medical regulations or the insurance system.

I am Yanru Mo, studying economics at Fudan University. About what I learned from this program, I think besides all the skills I learned, the most important thing is that I made really close friends. We exchanged our social media with American teammates and keep in touch with each other. That’s all because of the perfect teamwork we have done together.

Three Chinese teammates  went to a big lunch after the last call of this program. We talked and laughed a lot, thinking back of this month. We are faithful supporters to each other and will always be in the future.

Hi, I am Hyeonjin Kim, majoring in English Language and Literature and Business Administration at Hong-Ik University in Korea.

Through this experience, I have learned a lot of things such as researching and analyzing companies and markets, proposing partnerships, cooperating with foreign students, and so much more. It was my first actual business experience contacting real companies directly, so it was very awesome and helpful. Also, it was great being able to conduct this project virtually even though we were far apart.

On top of that, I am glad to have met the nicest students, which made me enjoy this whole project. Thank you so much for letting me experience all of them! :)
